Linda Hamilton and Sarah Connor

In the Terminator franchise, Linda Hamilton is Sarah Connor. She played the role in the first two films (The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day), but turned down an offer to appear in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, saying that the script didn't take her character in any new directions. Her voice appeared (with no credit) in the fourth film, Terminator Salvation, when Sarah's son John Connor plays some taped recordings.

The fifth film in the series, Terminator Genisys (2015), is described as a "soft reboot" of the original film. It was produced by a different company from the previous four. It called for a younger actress to play Sarah Connor, and the role was taken by Emilia Clarke – better known as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones.

For the 2019 film, the franchise reverted to its co-creator James Cameron. Terminator: Dark Fate was described as "a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day", and was intended to be the first in a new trilogy. Wikipedia reports however that the remainder of the trilogy was cancelled after poor box office returns for Dark Fate.
